The Free Gaza Movement has successfully sailed three times from Cyprus to Gaza in a historic and ongoing endeavor to break the siege of Gaza. Calling it an "enemy entity", Israel collectively punishes the whole population of the Gaza Strip - and Palestine in general - for something that is not really clear. If it was terror, the army and state would not create the conditions for violence by taking away the human rights and driving parts of the population into despair. The Free Gaza Movement takes a stand for Palestine and is fighting for equal rights.

Thousands of articles and features have covered the Free Gaza events worldwide, see http://www.freegaza.org/uploads/media/free_gaza_in_the_media.pdf . Human rights advocates like Bishop Tutu, Mairead Maguire and Noam Chomsky support the idea. The Free Gaza Movement has thousands of friends who follow the news and who share the efforts. Some write articles, some pass on the news. Others organize fundraising events or offer their specific knowledge, abilities, and contacts. Again others give their support through donations, so that new projects can be financed. One more way to join the movement is art.

Until the end of the year musicians can join the Free Gaza Song Contest at www.anis-online.de/office/events/FreeGazaSong.htm . Anis is an artist and journalist and wrote the Free Gaza Song and two more songs inviting people to submit versions of their own or new songs. For details see the press release on the contest page. This event is not really meant as a competition, but rather as a festival or party. And the party will go on in 2009.

On January 1, 2009, the Free Gaza Art Exhibition will open its gates. Artists from all around the world are invited to send in their work. Latuff from Brazil made a start with his cartoon, see www.freegaza.org/uploads/august2008/rights_advocates_defy_israeli_blockade_of_gaza.gif and Anis in Germany joined in with a drawing: www.anis-online.de/2/bilder/anis/freegaza01.htm . Everybody who has another contribution can send it to anis at anis-online.de and it will be displayed on a special page in an online exhibition. There will be prizes for outstanding artistic work. Every kind of art is possible: paintings, drawings, sculptures, videos, photos, collages, poetry, literature, music, dance, land art, anything that is clearly related to Free Gaza and that can be shown online.

Next to artistic contributions, the Free Gaza Art Festival will present special features about artists in Gaza and Palestine. So sharpen your pencils, tune your instruments, and join the Free Gaza Art Festival! Have fun and at the same time support the movement with your art by adding to the legend.

Das Free Gaza Art Festival geht weiter - Song Contest und Online-Ausstellung
(Pressemitteilung 23.11.2008)
